formattic excel number format

Spreadsheet Labs’ Formattic Excel add-in will amp up your Excel by saving your custom number formats. Then use those saved formats in any spreadsheet you want.

Saving Time with the Formattic Add-in

Normally in Excel, when you create a custom number format in a workbook, it can only be used in that workbook. If you want to use that same format in another workbook, you have to recreate it, or copy the number format that you created. Sometimes those custom number formats take a lot of your time and testing to make sure that they format the values in the cells the way that you want.

Now with the Formattic add-in, you can keep those custom formats that you created and use them in any workbook that you want.

Easily Save your Custom Number Formats

Once installed, the add-in creates a button on the Home ribbon before the Styles section. See the image below to see what it looks like on the Home ribbon.

Clicking on the Formattic button on the Home ribbon will open its dialog box, as seen below.

There are five different custom number formats that you can save. Also, you can add a description for each custom format. To save a custom number format, you can either:

  • Manually type in the format in one of the five format boxes,
  • Copy the format from the number tab on the Format Cells dialog box into one fo the format boxes, or
  • Click the applicable Import button on the Formattic dialog box, as seen below

Quickly Apply Your Custom Number Formats

Once you have a format and a description, if you choose, click the Save button to permanently save the format for use in any workbook. Clicking the Close button will close the form.

Now that you have your format saved, you can apply that saved number format to any workbook that you have or will have in the future.

To do this, simply select the cell or cells that you want the custom number format applied to. Then click the Custom Formats button in the Formattic section of the Home ribbon. This opens the Formattic dialog box. Your saved custom number formats will be shown on the dialog box.

Lastly, just click the radio button on the dialog box for the format that you want applied and click the Apply button. The format is applied to the cells and the dialog box closes.

And you are done! The saved number format has just been applied.
